Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border has welcomed the news that 21,164 pensioners in his constituency will receive a 10.1 per cent increase in their Basic State Pension from this month, protecting pensioners from inflationary pressures.
Nationally more than 12.5 million pensioners are benefitting from the Conservative Government policy to protect the triple lock on pensions which has led to the increase.
This increase is a the biggest ever cash increase in the state pension and will automatically be applied to pensioners’ payments, demonstrating the Conservative Government’s commitment to supporting pensioners in the face of rising prices
In addition to this uprating, pensioners will benefit from another £300 Pensioner Cost of Living Payment this winter, continuing the Conservative Government’s direct support for those groups most vulnerable to the effects of high inflation.
After making this manifesto commitment, Dr Hudson has been steadfast in his support for the Triple Lock and has successfully lobbied Government on delivering on the pledge.
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, said:
“I’ve always maintained that retaining the Triple Lock on pensions is the right thing to do for those who have worked hard throughout their lives to afford a comfortable retirement.
"While this is a significant expense for Government, it is the moral decision to protect those in retirement against international inflationary pressures and one I am proud to continue championing.”
Pensions Minister Laura Trott added:
“The effect of rising prices has been particularly challenging for the most vulnerable pensioners many of whom live on fixed incomes.
“That is why the Conservative Government has delivered on our commitment to protect the Triple Lock, giving 12.5 million pensioners an inflationary increase in their pension payments of 10.1 percent from April."
