MARK Jenkinson MP has welcomed the owners of a successful dairy to Number 10 to celebrate their success.
Mark and Jenny Lee of the Torpenhow Farmhouse Dairy were also given the chance to watch Prime Ministers Questions from the public gallery and were taken on a tour of Parliament.
The Local Business Champions Reception at Downing Street was set up to recognise businesses across the country which have made a contribution to their community and to the local economy.
Mark Jenkinson said: “The Torpenhow Farmhouse Dairy is a great example of a business which adapted to the challenges thrown up by pandemic and turned those challenges into an opportunity.
“When they ended up with a milk surplus during Covid, they built up a thriving cheese emporium. It was a pleasure to introduce Mark and Jenny Lee to the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, in 10 Downing Street.
“I am always keen to celebrate and promote Cumbrian businesses – and this one is a genuine success story – one might say the cream of the crop.”
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt added: “Local businesses are vital for our economy, our day to day lives and our communities.
“Creating jobs, supporting growth in a huge variety of sectors, their tireless hard work does not go unnoticed.
“I see the contribution that local businesses make across the country to all our cities, towns and villages and this is something we can all be proud of.
“Not only do they bring immeasurable value to the economy, but they are also the heart and soul of so many of our communities.”
