Allerdale Conservatives claim to be the only party standing up for the whole of the borough after announcing they are fielding a full slate of candidates for next month’s local elections.
Seaton Cllr Mark Jenkinson, the deputy leader of Allerdale Conservatives said they are standing 49 candidates across 23 wards. This came about following a boundary review that impacted on electoral boundaries across the borough and reduced the number of councillors from 56.
He said: “I’m delighted we have a full slate of candidates to fight in the local elections and shows that we are the only party to stand up for the whole borough.
“We have been doggedly holding the Labour run council here to account for some of their disastrous decisions they have made that disproportionately affect the poorest in society.
“While increasing council tax, cutting recycling services and chasing a PFI deal for a new stadium with a potential cost of £95m; they have neglected our streets, our villages and our towns and cut front line jobs - resulting in an increase in litter, fly-tipping and dog fouling across the borough.
“If in power we would freeze council tax and by stopping reckless borrowing and wasteful spending be able to increase the number of street scene officers on the front line.
“We would also look to introduce an anti-social behaviour team, invest in community facilities, protect weekly bin collections and deal with our affordable housing crisis - to deliver a cleaner, greener, safer Allerdale that is fit for the future.
“Many wards have more than one councillor, and if people want to see real change in Allerdale they should cast all of their votes for their Conservative candidates.”
